I. USAID/GTI-funded business development technical support for Small & Medium Size Enterprises (SME)
Under this project, our partners are
- Darsfield Village Farms & Outgrowers (DarsFarm) was established in 2017 as a Ghanaian cooperative that is helping to minimize post-harvest losses, increase profit for smallholder farmers, ensure food security through sustainable agricultural practices, with a focus on providing easy market access as well as building the capacity of its members in sustainable, organic, and eco-friendly agricultural practices.
- Edmass Foods Ltd is a Ghanaian company established in 2017 as a food processing company that is helping solve the challenges of high post-harvest losses and is providing easy market access, employment, and decreasing environmental footprints by siting its factory close to the farmers, and also increasing smallholder farmers’ profits by buying directly from them and creating employment for local youth.
- Nhyira Fruits is a Ghanaian company, originally founded in 2014 to produce pineapples, but in a bid to address post-harvest losses and add value, began processing single strand fruit juices that are delivered fresh from its state-of-the-art factory directly to the customer, thus gradually accumulating thousands of faithful repeat customers and solidifying a reputation as a hallmark of excellence, unwavering commitment to quality, the environment, and quality service.
- HG Hendy Farms Ltd. is a family-women-owned agribusiness originally established more than two decades ago as a mango farm, but now also engages in juice processing, popsicles production, vegan and gluten-free mango preserves, hot sauces, jam, frozen cuts, solar-dried chips and leaves, while also offering farm tours and other farm events such as fruits and vegetable picking.
- Since Shea is a Ghanaian cosmetic brand established in 2000, using local ingredients such as unrefined shea butter, African black soap, aromatic plants, herbs, spices, and essential oils; producing hand-crafted hair and skincare products that are environmentally friendly and customized for different skin types. Since Shea is the English translation of the Akan phrase “Tete Nkuto.”
- J&E Green Ways Farms Ltd is Ghanaian agribusiness established in 2020 to promote sustainable agricultural practices, environmental safeguarding, access to quality nutrition, and women’s economic empowerment. As such, J&E prioritizes aggregating from smallholder women farmers, and employing women throughout its processing chain, in addition to work on J&E’s own farms.
- Stelord Enterprise is Ghanaian agribusiness established in 2013 to produce cocoa, maize, pineapple, cassava, and plantain crops. With the aim of attracting local youth into agriculture, Stelord prioritizes being a clear example to the youth of the communities in which it operates, that farming is a profitable means of employment for the youth.
- S.V. Noble Enterprise is a Ghanaian agrobusiness founded in 2019 to produce vegetable and fruit and adding value by aggregating and processing for the domestic and international markets.
II. Defending Workers’ Rights in Africa (AKA Workers’ Rights)
Under the Workers’ Rights Program, our Consortium Partners are:
- Ghana Mine Workers’ Union (TUC) Ghana (GMWU) was established on June 7, 1944, and currently has approximately 13,000 members and 75 branches in Ghana.
- General Construction, Manufacturing and Quarries Workers’ Union of TUC (Ghana) (GCMQWU) was established on September 8, 2016, and is the only trade union that is led by a woman in Ghana. It has 3,004 members, drawn from 20 companies in Ghana.
- Construction and Building Materials Workers’ Union of TUC Ghana (CBMWU) was established in 1954 with a current membership of 6,300 from 37 companies in Ghana.
- Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) Africa Office is based in Ghana, working for human rights since 2002. Among its notable achievements is spearheading the successful passage of Ghana’s Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2019 (Act 989).
- National Institute for Public Opinion (NIPO) was established in 1999 as the Movement for Peace & Reconciliation in Liberia (MOPAR-Liberia), then morphed into the NIPO in 2009 working on human rights issues, with a special focus on women and girls.
- Penplusbytes was established in July 2001, initially creating a network of media organizations and journalists interested in using ICTs then evolving to developing and deploying new digital tools for use in solving social and civic challenges.
III. Scaling Care Innovation in Africa
Under this anticipated project, our consortium partners are:
- Savana Women Integrated Development Agency (SWIDA) has over 10 years working with several INGOs, NGOs and CSOs in the northern part of Ghana on women’s issues and has experience in unpaid care work in managing donor funds.
- Sung Foundation is a women led organization based in northern Ghana, that works in areas of women empowerment and livelihood, and Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA) and is currently working on women unpaid care work in parts of Tolon District.
- Gender, Reproductive Health Advocacy Youth Network (GRAY Network) works in the Volta and Oti regions of Ghana collaborating with INGOs, NGOs, and CBOs to advocate reduction in gender-based violence and holding government officials accountable for girls’ empowerment.
- Centre for Centre for Social Policy Studies (CSPS) is a research Centre at the University of Ghana, established with a triple mandate of research, training and advocacy in social policy. Its past research was done in partnership with the Government of Ghana, DFID, the EU, Mastercard Foundation, Star Ghana, UNICEF and the World Bank, among others.
IV. Support for Transitional Justice in The Gambia and Liberia Program
Under this Program, our Consortium Partners are:
- Interventions For Advocacy and Effective Community Engagements (IFACE) – Liberia has decades experience working on governance issues including citizens’
participation in the good governance of the country’s resources. Experience implementing USAID and UN projects. - Progress and Opportunities for Women’s Empowerment and Rights-Liberia (POWER-Liberia) is pushing to address inequality and access to justice and services for
marginalized groups like women and girls. Has experience implementing UN projects. - National Institute for Public Opinion (NIPO) was established in 1999 as the Movement for Peace & Reconciliation in Liberia (MOPAR-Liberia), then morphed into the NIPO in 2009 working on human rights issues, with a special focus on women and girls.
- Young People Health Peer Educator (YPHPE), INC, is engaged in community level awareness creation and civic education, mainly related to health and migrant issues.
- Foundation for International Dignity (FIND) is a pro-democracy and human rights organization working to promote peace, good governance, rule of law and access to justice in Liberia. FIND was established in 2002 as a regional organization and later registered in Liberia as a non-for-profit in October 2003.
V. Marine Debris Grant
- Thinking Minds Ghana (TMG) – is a youth-led organization that is based in Akosombo and operates along the of the Volta River in the Asuogyaman District, Eastern Region,. Their main focus is youth empowerment and environmental sustainability. They have mobilized and train about 18,000 SHS students and community groups about climate change and are currently working to reduce the impact of evasive aquatic weeds on the livelihoods of people and fisher folks along the Volta Lake.
- Talent Tahuf Foundation – is a youth-led organization based in the Ketu South Municipality in the Volta Region of Ghana. Their main focus of operation is youth empowerment, IT, and environmental sustainability. Over the years they’ve partnered with Kumasi Hive, WoogleSoft, and Soronko Academy to reach over 2,500 basic to SHS students with IT literacy.
VI. Powered by the People (PxP) Activity
Under the PxP Activity, our Consortium Partners are:
- Penplusbytes has over two decades of experience using technology to push change in the governance (anti-corruption) and climate change spheres. Among notable works is the “Metogu” and “Red Flag Movement” projects.
- Eco-Conscious Citizens campaign for a clean, green, and healthy environment. It stopped construction of a multi-story building on Parks and Gardens land, and with others protected iconic mahogany trees and mangrove, and is fighting destructive mining and noise pollution.
- Concerned Citizens of Atewa Landscape is currently litigating against the government as part of its campaign to stop bauxite mining in the Atewa Forest Reserve, which supplies over 5 million people with drinking water.
- Interventions For Advocacy and Effective Community Engagements (IFACE) – Liberia has decades experience working on governance issues including citizens’ participation in the good governance of the country’s resources. Experience implementing USAID and UN projects.
- Progress and Opportunities for Women’s Empowerment and Rights-Liberia (POWER-Liberia) is pushing to address inequality and access to justice and services for marginalized groups like women and girls. Has experience implementing UN projects.
- Friends of Franbarine International (FOFI) has over a decade experience fighting for environmental justice for marginalized people at the grassroots level within the forests of southeastern Liberia and is currently campaigning to stop two oil palm plantations from degrading the forests.
- Ghana Environmental Advocacy Group is currently using traditional & social media campaigns to expose the activities of irresponsible and illegal miners and pressure government to act.
- Ghana Youth Environmental Movement (GYEM) is a youth-led environmental group currently campaigning for legislation to ban single-use plastics (#BanSingleUseGh). Other projects include establishing “Green Clubs in School.”
